Originally I had planned on going to the show in Colchester CT (near to Hartford) for the Beres Hammond concert, also with Anthony B "but" the weather was really horrible that day, much rain and clouds. My friend & I didn't even attempt the drive over there -- much disappointment on our part, a beautiful venue on a lake and with beautiful weather it would have been MOST NICE. We didn't even attempt to go the weather predictions were really pretty bad.
Wednesday early morning we left upstate NY to go to a State Park in Massachusetts, Lloyd Demarest State Park I think was the name of the place. Just south of Fall River MA in Buzzards Bay -- this is a no waves beach but you can walk out 1/2 a mile or so and the water is just up to your waist.
It was nice, perfect sunshine day & we picked a sandbar and brought our beach chairs out there and hung out there all day long. Then we made our way to Somerset MA where we had reservations at some Quality Inn there. Pretty disturbing to see a nuclear plant 1/2 mile away -- really close, we were in Somerset but in Fall River MA, right on the river. "SHOW TIME" Beres Hammond at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence.
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of Jamaicans in each and every city in the northeast. Bless Up Providence RI crew, you are nice & respect to the selector/DJ for the songs in between the stage show part of the night.
Beres has alternative opening acts for this particular 2011 tour, sometimes Sanchez, sometimes Anthony B, othertimes Wayne Wonder. This particular night Wayne Wonder was the opening act. The show that I didn't go to just outside of Hartford CT .. the opening act was Anthony B.
The crowd for sure enjoyed Wayne Wonder and knew all of his songs. The day after this show we went to Horseneck Beach in Massachusetts, close of the Rhode Island border for the day, leaving late for our next stop Glouchester Massachusetts at at motel right off of Good Harbor Beach.
That night we drove to Revere Massachusetts for our next Beres show at (what I call still) Club Lido. This club now has a new name due to a murder/shooting at a dancehall big dance show awhile back. But for any roots and cultural stage shows it is a safe place. The show was NICE! One thing I like about going to a Beres Hammond show is "the entire JA crew" shows up at the place, at least if they can get the money to come. Morning time it was back to the Cape Ann area, only this time Winkersheak Beach.
On a negative note, the one guitar player in the band, to me, is extremely annoying. He can play the guitar for sure, but has this annoying habit (which he might perceive as cool) of throwing his head from side to side to make his (middle parted) dreads go from side to side. On the more Yes I side of the band, the one horn player is UNREAL and extremely good. Beres had the knowledge and musical "yeah" to highlight him throughout the night.
We left Cape Ann yesterday around noon, stopped home briefly and continued on to Rochester NY for the show last night, which was again, a great stage show. Beres always puts on his best performance and performs for a LONG time.
