Logically, perhaps. Still, the First Day of Fall (Autumn Equinox) in the northern hemisphere is the day of the year when the Sun crosses the celestial equator moving southward on September 22nd.
Entering the Battle Pedantic; since the creation of the Gregorian Calendar, the autumnal equinox can occur from the 21st to the 24th of September as well.
