Still, a couple of REALLY useful things I bring to Jamaica are lots and lots of US $1's. I use them for route taxi's, tips at restaurants, street food... As well as a spreadsheet of US $$ vs. JA $$'s. After about 3 days I have the conversions down pat, but I find it really useful at first.
I have been planning to leave for JA really quick since my long-time ill sweet dog Roamie died, but instead I am having my roof replaced -- and evidently it really needed to be replaced because even a lot of ply wood had rotted out. There is nothing more aggravating than having to spend thousands of $$ on this type of thing - but structually probably the most important.
Thankfully this winter has ended, I don't think I ever remember such a harsh long winter with continual really cold temperatures. Thankfully it is finally over in upstate NY!
