Soon I met another solo tourist, John Midiri, at SIR D lookout up the road from Seastar Inn, and he was on a scooter, too. We became instant friends. There is very strong bond that forms between tourists in Negril, and generally you find yourselves telling your life story and your real feelings very quickly.
John Midiri and I hung out everyday from this point forward, and we remain close to this very moment, along with Charlie, of course. John wakes up every morning and helps young kids at the all-ages school as a tutor -- great guy.
Midiri is a techie back home (he proudly refers to himself as a computer geek) and he dresses every morning in Negril in a white dress shirt, black tie and thick-rimmed glasses (ha ha, jk). Jamaica is where he likes to get his groove on, and Midiri loves to drink and party and find romance with the girls.
The big difference from with Midiri compared to Charlie and I is that Midiri does not like the ocean -- because he is afraid of sharks of all things. I tell him that I have been in the ocean perhaps close to 2,000 times through the years and this is merely a phobia of his, but to no avail.
Anyway, here is a shot of all three of us in Room 9 at Seastar Inn (left to right, Gerry G, Tattoo Charlie, John Midiri):
