RUNAWAY BAY, St Ann — The community of Runaway Bay, St Ann, is reeling following the brutal murder of a prominent businessman Tuesday night.
Forty-year-old Nicholas Jones, part-owner of Sharkies Seafood Restaurant in Runaway Bay, was shot and killed at his home shortly after leaving his place of business. His licensed firearm was taken by his attackers.
Reports are that explosions were heard shortly after Jones arrived at his home about 10:30 pm. The police were called and Jones’ bullet-riddled body was found lying in a pool of blood beside his motor vehicle. He was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.
The police were not able to say how many times Jones was shot, but confirmed that several spent shells were removed from the scene.
When the Jamaica Observer visited Jerkies Plaza, where Jones also operated another business, family members, including his mother, were on location but were too grief-stricken to speak.
Those who spoke said Jones was a very hard-working man in the community, and so his death had shocked everyone.
“People are just numb,” one woman said.
“He was hard-working. A very nice young man,” the woman added.
