I hate to admit it, but I do like the unlimited food and drink thing (though the food leaves A LOT to be desired, at least the food I ate, quality declining over the years). We had a ball and friends that stayed at the property had a ball. AI and Non-AI are two completely different experiences and neither is good or bad - it depends on what type of vacation you are looking for. I don't think I'd be happy staying at an AI for more than a few nights, it would get boring for me, but hey - I could see where sticking a flag in the sand when you want a refresher on your cocktail could be appealing...
Last year my friends split their stay between Grand Lido and my house and were so happy they did. They got to experience some "authentic" Negril the first half of their trip and got to experience a little more luxury and full service the second half. They did prefer their stay in our yard to Grand Lido (the food was much, much better, lol) but enjoyed both very much.
Totally agree! I don't understand why folks argue the topic, its as different as night and day. My kids and I are going to the HILTON ROSE HALL in July and I admit I am looking forward to some relaxation and being spoiled by the HILTON amenities. On the same note I am returning to Negril and staying Non A/I in October and I can already feel the real Jamaica experience calling me. There is a closeness you get going non A/I that can be just as relaxing and refreshing, but in a totally different way.
