My dear friend has a soft spot for tourist women "wanting" the "real" Jamaica experience but not having enough money to actually rent a place. She then "trades" a bit of gardening and house sitting so that they can use the few funds they have on the latest Jamaican "boyfriend" and a box of mac and cheese. They leave her house dirty, they split and don't tell her (i.e., making a 3 month committment and taking off after 2 months because the boyfriend ran through her meager funds much sooner than she expected). She then arrives on the island having to scrub her home top to bottom, with no idea who has been there to hear stories about her "charge" running rampant around town with a rent-a-dread.
I'm glad to say my friend learned her lesson, changed the locks and fortified her gate. But opportunists are everywhere, preying on good hearted people like my friend and Pineapple. And it sucks...period. Its really too bad when you can't trust someone to put ONE drink on your tab. Cho.
