When I was 17 and knew I knew everything, I went home for xmas break from University and on my way back to school a family member sent some rum with me for another family member in Fla (plus some for myself). I refused to carry the cooked food or parboild ackee they wanted to send and KNEW that the rum would be no problem. YUP how did I not know that the drinking age in the USA was 21 and a 17yo with 4 bottles of rum would be a problem.
I was smart though I opened all 4 and emptied them in the garbage can right there in front of the immi officer.
Going home for a visit as an adult with a couple of friends I brought stuff to lighten the load for my Mom having to feed extra people, among that was a couple cans of ground coffee and couple jars of instant. yeah they got taken...because DUMBASS me declared them. Should have packed them with the tourists and gone through the nothing to declare line .
Another time (adult) fell in love with rum cream but also had to have J Wray overproof because they didnt sell it in Canada... bought waaaay over the limit but just decided to pay the duty. Got up to customs and the guy asked the normal questions and I said "I have 3 bottles of such an such in this bag and 2 bottles of such an such in that bag and 2 bottles of this in this bag and this (which was a 3 pack of rum from duty free) poor guy was so confused he just checked me off and away I went
