CRIME STAT “HIGHLIGHTS”
— Despite a 19% decrease from 2012, Winnipeg remained the violent crime capital of Canada. Manitoba was also Canada’s most violent province, despite a 13% drop from the previous year.
— The murder capital of Canada is Regina. With 26 homicides in 2013, Winnipeg finished second in that category. However, Manitoba had the highest murder rate amongst provinces by a wide margin.
— With a 15% drop in overall crime from 2012, Winnipeg had only the seventh highest overall crime rate in Canada. Manitoba had the second highest crime rate amongst provinces, behind only Saskatchewan, despite an 11% drop from last year.
— There were 1,379 sexual assaults in Manitoba in 2013, the third highest rate amongst all provinces. Winnipeg was tied for second highest amongst major cities with Brantford, slightly behind Kingston.
— There were 3,631 auto thefts reported in the province last year, a 3% drop from 2012. It’s the third highest rate amongst provinces, behind Alberta and Saskatchewan. Winnipeg was sixth highest amongst major cities. Brantford was first.
