In truth about all I really remember was that the sax player rocked the place and I mean that place was rocking. Only went because my girlfriend's college dorm roommate was from...New Jersey. And since it was one of the first shows I ever saw in my young adult life I didn't realize how spectacular it was. Later I grew to appreciate most performers never reach such a fever pitch with their audiences.
Yes Clarence Clemmens was an awesome sax player and a integral part of Springsteen's band. I was in the music business for a good part of the 70's and part of my job was to attend concerts, and I never saw a performer with that energy that would transfer directly to the audience. The second best concert I saw was Springsteen about a year later in another small venue. I've seen many great shows, but for me nothing comes close to the two Boss shows. I did see him again once in a large arena and it was just not the same.
