roots....I took the subway alone from about age 12, and through high school every day from Manhattan to Brooklyn and back. That was completely normal and I think it still is.
I would bet if I asked ANY of my friends about subway groper/rubbers they'd ALL say they have had it happen. Can't imagine any haven't been yelled at on the street either. There is something about a large city that makes these pigs think they can get away with it - they don't know you, they don't know your family, etc etc.
Perhaps something similar is going on in Negril, though honestly I think it's more an attraction to money they think I have and will share than a female put-you-in-your-place like I perceive it to be in NYC. Anytime I have turned around and confronted a guy in NY they've been shocked, or ashamed, or turned away - they never continue. In Negril, I think they'd find attention encouraging.
