Fatty - after hearing about the 4th shooting in 4 days I got overwhelmed and glazed over. I made it my business to finally go through my pix from this last stay and do what I always do - begin making my little movie.
We don't know that business owners in Negril have not confronted police or politicians about the recent violence. The business owners I know would not take to the streets with loud protests or blast stuff on the internet. They maneuver more quietly.
As far as the Breakwater debacle, have you been to any other meetings that have taken place over the plus year +? My friends have and according to them TONS of business owners (hotels and restaurants) including Lee Issa were there as were just a few government representatives. That is, until the "stakeholders" were planning to present an alternative eco-friendly method - then the government officials still didn't show up. These meetings early on were packed to the ceiling with residents and business owners. The powers that be were very certain of opposition to the plan by the community...and they approved it anyway. I'd venture to guess that many business owners just got fed up - the months and days wasted in planning and having these meeting ulitmately meant nothing. At this point I think most of the opposition work is being done behind the scenes. Mary Viera and Sophie Grizzle are two tough customers and I have faith that this thing will not happen to Negril.
