Because you are always going to hear from the " it can happen anywhere" crowd.
5 people shot in one incident does NOT happen everywhere.

Oh and everyone's opinions count as it's a message board. You didn't really state an opinion, you just kinda gave a jab...

I think Tim just made a cynical point about negril in his first post, which is not unique on this or any board....
A young life lost and a bunch of young women critically injured is the point to really get passionate about imo.

Tim, unfortunately this crap does happen often in many places. Be very thankful you live in an area that has had only one murder this year. Here in Winnipeg, we have had plenty...
CRIME STAT “HIGHLIGHTS” — Despite a 19% decrease from 2012, Winnipeg remained the violent crime capital of Canada. Manitoba was also Canada’s most violent province, despite a 13% drop from the previous year. — The murder capital of Canada is Regina. With 26 homicides in 2013, Winnipeg finished second in that category. However, Manitoba had the highest murder rate amongst provinces by a wide margin. — With a 15% drop in overall crime from 2012, Winnipeg had only the seventh highest overall crime rate in Canada. Manitoba had the second highest crime rate amongst provinces, behind only Saskatchewan, despite an 11% drop from last year. — There were 1,379 sexual assaults in Manitoba in 2013, the third highest rate amongst all provinces. Winnipeg was tied for second highest amongst major cities with Brantford, slightly behind Kingston. — There were 3,631 auto thefts reported in the province last year, a 3% drop from 2012. It’s the third highest rate amongst provinces, behind Alberta and Saskatchewan. Winnipeg was sixth highest amongst major cities. Brantford was first. — Manitoba had the third highest rate of break and enters in Canada, behind Saskatchewan and Alberta. Winnipeg was sixth highest amongst cities. Vancouver was first. — Statistics Canada

I don't know that there's ever been a murder in Bodega (pop 300) where I live. There was one in Jenner (pop apx 1000) about 1/2 hour north of where I live about 10 years ago that is still unsolved.
Every single morning when I hesitate to turn on the news I hear of drive by shootings killing many young people in Richmond, Oakland and San Francisco. Like I said before, doesn't make THIS incident any less tragic. But Tim...there has been violence in Negril forEVER. Jamaicans hired to kill expats - that was "the thing" for a while. Its not that I'm always right - its that I have experience and knowledge of the area and it is my second home so yes I'm passionate about the subject. My neighbor was shot dead about 100 yards away from my gate for Christ's sake. Your "jabs" at what I have to say has nothing to do with this tragedy and YES I get the "sarcasm" - unfortunately you are not too good at it because it came off as rude and thoughtless. You don't like me - I get it. You fear for yourself and your wife in Negril (even though all of these shootings were locals on locals) and you had a bad experience there - that's all well and good and I'm sorry for that - but no one says you have to go back. Many will not - hearing about gun violence will keep tourists away, I guarantee that. But for some of us - most of us actually here on this board, our ties go deeper - we own property, have family and community there....so its going to take way more than this to keep us away. We are sad for these young women - it is tragic beyond belief. Lets keep the conversation moving in that direction and keep personalities out of it, shall we? I know (knew) Ombretta Jackson, which then hits close to home. No tears, but a major upset for me because I last saw her in October at a friends house.
I never knew her to use drugs. ---- Side note: Humor and sarcasm are very, very hard to convey on the Internet. The word "you" sometimes should be avoided if it sounds like a personal attack. "One should consider that" vs "YOU should consider that."

Living in LA County, with millions if residents and some lethal ganglands, I have never met or known someone murdered...But I have known someone murdered in JA...Just sayin...That is why I know for a fact "it is not like home"...

Regardless, it is sad and the neighborhood needs to band together to rid itself of the fuckery. Peeps know who the bad boys are, but are too scared to do anything about it. One common theme seems to be that the bad boys like to do these hits on bikes, where they can get away quickly and blend in easier. A little more roadblock action will go along way.

This is so sad and I am so very sorry for the families and friends of these poor woman. We can only hope the others survive the hospital.
Tim, Tim, Tim, 95% of the time you are a cool guy with interesting contributions to the board. The other 5% of the time you appear to be after Rastagirl777. Please - I beg of you - let it go! You don't have to agree with, or even like anyone here. However, it is not OK to pick on people. I wish I could have copied this map, but here is a map of the world wide murder rates - look at poor little Jamaica. It is truly heartbreaking. http://chartsbin.com/view/1454 |
