I absolutely agree with you, but in addition there are many crimes in negril that I know of that go unreported as well. It's all kept very hush hush.
Trip advisor have done their usual whitewash and closed down a thread that someone started on there about Colin's murder.
IMO although I haven't been going to JA as long as some of you guys(70s and 80s) Jamaica and negril has always had these problems, and there's been many years when it has been worse than it is now. So for the last few years negril has been infiltrated by bad people from the other end of the island, much like what is happening now in mobay. They are under attack.
In 2012 I witnessed a drive by shooting of a man shot dead, scam related. It was spitting distance from the police station. They didn't even come out, but the ambulance came from Sav.
With all this madness and mayhem, I still feel committed to the friends and family and many associates we have there who are not involved in this, but sadly very affected. So my balance is that I always remember these good people, and that Jamaicans are as different to each other as we all are. There is still many positives IMO. And the amount if repeat visitors reflect that. Generally I would still say that tourists are safer, although there are never any guarantees. Most return home with a tan and without incident.
