We too put up a gate and barbed wire fencing to try to keep the goats out although they would still find their way in. Could not believe the goat trouble on Westland Mountain. There was a dispute over the ownership of a particular goat between my neighbour and a resident of Redground. The neighbours gathered around and the police came. They wanted to know the paternity of the goat. Eventually the goat was loaded in a truck a taken to the police station. My husband kept saying the police would be eating curry goat that day. However, they brought the goat halfway up the mountain and let the goat decide which way to go. He chose the neighbours. There may be a law in Jamaica that if you are caught with a goat in your vehicle after dark it is automatic jail.
We stayed on Westland Mountain with no bars on the windows and dogs as our only security all of the years I was there without incident. They say it is living good. People are very territorial of their yards and people know their boundaries. Only close friends and family would come directly to the door otherwise they would call for you at the edge of the property.
