This will carry from Tuesday to Thursday (mostly boring “but fun for us”)
On Tuesday it was “very windy” but only blowing in the direction form Negril/town/cliffs area proper towards Rutland Point. Roughed up the surf only on beaches in that direction and totally messed up the all inclusive beaches with seaweed/grass and muddied the water there so to speak. J
Not too much of a bother, on the family beach, where we were at other than you could not see the bottom to avoid urchins so water shoes or careful walking needed.
Stayed at the beach all day and took a cab up to Sunset Beach next to CoCo La Palm for supper.
We had the “on the board special”, coconut snapper for 2 (may have been another fish?). IMHO the only way to tell what fish you are really getting “anywhere” (US included) is to eat it heads on or buy whole or see cleaned whole. The fish was excellent and almost more than we could eat. Two overlapping pieces of fish covered in sauce and sides of pumpkin soup, a cabbage salad and peas and rice.
I suggested this same meal to Jitter and her friends and they were disappointed so I guess it is the luck of the draw at Sunset Beach on what you get.
We then went to CoCo the first place we had ever stayed at in Negril and had a dirty banana for desert, then simply taxied back to PV.
Wednesday was errand day going to the grocery for more supplies, fruit, snacks, beer, cheese, etc. Picked up some patties to take back for lunch that day and quick meals other days at lunchtime.
Returning simply stocked the refrigerator and went to the beach (I told you boring) but boring is what we come Negril for.
Rained again late afternoon (we have become accustomed to afternoon rain) but it letup and we walked down to Our Pastime for supper. Fireman was not there and a substitute guy was manning the pit. Service was slow but we had an excellent meal again of Tuna steaks with sides.
We always order and grab a beer and walk the beach and return so service being on “island time” has never been a problem to us. I have learned that in any island to not expect quick service and “do not” wait till you are starved to go and expect something like McDonald’s, Burger King type on demand service (at least that is my 2 cents). From what I can tell traveling for years this applies to most any Caribbean destination.
Ordering and then finding something else to do like walk the beach is our style and may not fit others expectations for service.
That brings me to Thursday the last day on this installment. We were awakened by really pounding surf like nothing I had seen before at PV or any place we had been in Negril. Totally trashed the clarity of the water, but really more so at the AI’s, than our location after it settled down later in the day, I mean really pounding in the early hours. I hope Monica sees the video I will post.
Using PM on this board I had setup a meeting in the afternoon with Jitter, Ohliz, Kaycee and Suzengrace had also wanted to attend.
Ended up that Kaycee had to bail because her vacation plans changed and she was not coming to Negril as planned. Suzengrace was arriving slightly after we were leaving so that didn’t pan out. Jitter and Ohliz were able to meet us and the place was the Bar B Barn where they were both staying.
Jitter was located there and Ohliz just moved in from the cliffs that day.
Internet friends are nice but it is really nice to meet people in person.
Jitter had several friends traveling and staying with her and they all came. Some of Ohliz’s friends were also on the beach at BBB and she was with them when we arrived. It was truly a nice visit with everyone and glad it worked after all our planning. We saw sunset from BBB and Beth and I ate there and went to Bourbon Street for some music and then headed back to PV. BTW, ran into Rasta Dave there and we talked it up for a while.
I forgot to mention that Ohliz brought some excellent smoked marlin and shared it with all of us (how nice). A friend of hers in St. Ann had given it to her. That was the first time I had ever eaten marlin and it must have been a premonition of things to come……
Continued in next reporting.
This video is from Thursday morning taken at the salt pool and cave area at PV. You cannot even see the salt pool. I guess it was just a high tide and wind causing the waves as there was not tropical depression and the waves let up later in the day.
