"I just don't want to be asked in the first place---- if everyone would just stay in their personal space and I stay in mine the world would be a better place-lol"
Amen sister! And do avoid the following cities because the cigarette, spare change bumming is worse than it is in Negril:
- San Francisco
- New York
- Philadelphia
- Washington DC
I'm sure there are more - but in these cities when I go outside to smoke a cigarette I am BOMBARDED with folks asking me for one, offering to buy one - I go out there to smoke which I can't do in my room and sometimes its the only outside time I get when I'm working so I just want to be in my own head. I once timed it in San Francisco - one American Spirit takes 7 minutes to smoke. While smoking I was approached seven times with a request for SOMETHING (mostly a cigarette). That's once per minute.
What makes Negril great is the variety of types of travelers you meet...some can't vibe with the cliffs, others can't vibe with the beach. If you'd told me all those years ago I would never stay on the beach in Negril I would have said - craziness! I'm a beach bum through and through all my life - but I love the quiet and neighborhood feel of the cliffs. And I don't feel isolated there having made great friends and sharing a yard with six other homes. Hanging out at our regular places I see old friends and neighbors and meet new ones. For me the beach (at least the beach at Long Bay) doesn't even feel Jamaican to me (actually that was pointed out by a friend of mine on her first trip to Negril). But anyway that you enjoy - that's the great way. Everytime.
