Port Antonio, Feb 2008 - tucz - 04-15-2011

So I've been on this forum for a while, but haven't really shared a trip report or any Ja photos yet. That's because all of my recent trips have been about family, and all the pics are of my kids (which is very boring for anyone other than me!)

So, I have to go back to 2008 for a few pictures without family in, and even then I only have a few.

This is a series of kind of panoramic photos from our balcony when we stayed in Port Antonio:

And on a sunnier day:

Re: Port Antonio, Feb 2008 - tucz - 04-15-2011

A bit of background - my first baby was due in May 2008, and my husband was still living in Jamaica during my pregnancy (he eventually came to the UK one week before my due date, but that's definitely another story!) So I decided to come for one last pre-children trip to Jamaica when I was 6 months pregnant.

I wanted to see some more of the island, so instead of flying into Mo Bay I decided to fly direct to Kingston from the UK, and stay in Port Antonio for a few days. I had looked at a map and naively decided that it didn't look like too much of a drive from Kingston to PA, so my husband picked me up at the airport and we headed straight off. I don't know if the road has been improved since then, but at that time it was terrible - I've never seen so many potholes! And being 6 months pregnant, it wasn't the most comfortable journey - I'm lucky I didn't go into labour!

When we eventually got there, we had a lovely few days. We went bamboo rafting on the Blue Lagoon:

and the Rio Grande (sitting down was about all I could manage!):

and we visited the beach at Frenchman's Cove, which was nice but my husband didn't appreciate having to pay to go on a beach when he already lived on one!

Overall, it was a really nice place to visit. After 3 days we drove to Negril for the rest of the trip. I was struck by how much better the north coast road was compared to the road from Kingston. It made me a bit sad, as I know PA used to be a really big tourist destination, but the state of the road seemed to highlight its decline. I hope it's been fixed up since!

Sorry this wasn't much of a report - and I know ohliz has done a much better job of a PA report before, but it's all I got for now!
