Passport Cards - Firemon - 11-17-2016 When I first started traveling to Jamaica U.S. passports weren't required. Then the law changed, Homeland Security, etc. So I got a passport. Now that passport is set to expire (after 10 years) so I just checked into getting it renewed only to learn there's something called a Passport Card ($30) now that is good for travel in Canada, Mexico, and the Carribbean so I apparently won't need an expensive Passport Book ($110) to continue visiting Jamaica. Big Ups to the government. https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/passports/FeeChart/Passport%20Fees%20Chart_TSG%20March2016.pdf RE: Passport Cards - Firemon - 11-17-2016 Hmm, I might have that wrong. As I re-read the form it says: "A passport card is valid only for travel by land and by sea to the following locations: Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean." Looks like air travel may still require the Passport Book. RE: Passport Cards - CardBoardBox - 11-17-2016 My educated guess is you DO NEED a passport. The card is for driving into Canada and Mexico. The wording on various US web pages is a bit unclear in a place or two about the 'card' but should echo my first sentence. And JA requires one. BTW. last year I too came to the same conclusion as you which humbly I say "I think you are mistaken." addendum 10 hours later: I missed post #2, hence, the above text/response (unchanged) only applied to the original one of thinking a card might be good enough. I also wasn't sure about boats so only mentioned automobiles. They offer to sell both together cause the card fits in your wallet (speculation.) RE: Passport Cards - Mattjamaica - 11-17-2016 Probably for cruise ship passengers to ? |
