Is it just me or is Western Jamaica seeing huge increase in murders of late? Just w/in the past week and I think there may have been more:

Four youths shot dead in Withorn shop.
27-year-old Kenroy Colquhoun shot a medical facility parking lot broad daylight.
24 yr olds Chandev Edwards and Chantel Wilson shot in Glendevon and house set ablaze.
And now, Two women were murdered in their Westmoreland home last night.

There are murders in the Kingston area of course (like the poor policewoman executed for being, well ...a policewoman), but sadly, that is something we read about every week.
Newspapers print "rumors" of some of this being reprisals going on b/c of disputes over lotto scam winnings.
Anyone there (or in contact w/ those there) havea sense this is unusual?

What a shame, they seem to have shot the women on purpose since they robbed the man without shooting him. Unusual yes...and sad.

It's the way it is . My friend who lives in Redground says that there are gunshots every night in Redground and Whitehall. Young guys drive by the shops showing the " Glocks " even in the daytime . I wonder what their mothers think .

Well...its official. Westmoreland Parish seems to have logged in the most murders in Jamaica recently (newspaper article, Observer I think).
The murders Jon Tom talks about did not happen in Negril. Westmoreland is a pretty large Parish.
This lottery scam thing is responsible for most if not all of the murders we keep hearing about. It sucks.

It appears the parish of St James is competing for that title.

Also had meant to note earlier that the Colquhoun murder and the double-murder right after were in St James (MoBay area).

Mo bay mayhem 7 killed in 24 hours. Jamaica Gleaner July 19 2015. Curfews are being contemplated for the most volatile areas .

More violence, Irie fm story goes that a business man was robbed and murdered as he came home around 11 pm on sat. july 25. Happened on ella drive or pee wee lane in the west end of Negril . He apparently owns a guest house on the lane that is close to One Love Drive . Two men assaulted him, then dragged him to the bathroom where he was shot.

True story; locals watch hotels. (not all.) One time after guests checked in to Heartbeat, 2 guys with guns went to the owners house that night and robbed the manager. When they were given some J$, their response was "Where is the US?"
I don't know the circumstances of the unfortunate murder, but even giving up the $ can end in death.
I guess the discussions of past events have not produced any changes/improvements by the police or the residents.
Disapointing.
