Brasi, just one comment about registering guests. In such a violent country and especially the tourist mecca...how would one protect it's guests if the doors were wide open 24/7. They require you to register your guests for SAFETY reasons...yourself and other guests. Because your guests were good people doesn't mean your neighbour dragged someone home who is. It's necessary and frankly I would never stay somewhere that didn't have this policy. Just a though..

I agree that it can be necessary. I have encountered some seedy folks in Negril. Mostly though people are great.

My issue is that i DID register my guest! And we were STILL harassed.

Belmont has a guest house called Shades Cottage, it's where I stay. Bigga and Gwen run the place. There are a few similar to it.

Bigga is a proud Dad of four girls and a granddad to one and the manager of the place; Gwen, his wife, cooks for guests yardi family style...

Many of my first experiences @ Shades are documented in a Trip Report from Jan12. I will see if I can rustle it up.

In any case, there are a few higher end places to stay in that area as well.
