Conch eat sea urchins and star fish, both of which eat living coral. When conch end up in soup, that is one less protector of the reefs.
However, there is at least one person who feels that sea urchins and star fish serve a useful purpose.

And, in humor, many people enjoy conch soup, hence this video is like fattening up cows.

Coral can not move, but there are other things killing the reefs:
sand blown over from Africa; some sun tan products; boat anchors; fish

I post it for "fairness" to my statement of being pro-conch and anti-sea urchin.

The boring story says the sick/dieing sea urchins have tiny single-celled organisms called ciliates but the scientists do not know what causes the illness.
