Has anyone been to Half Moon Beach? It is a really nice spot near Negril. I bet staying at one the cabins would be great if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle but not TOO far away. ....

i looked at the place . . . too isolated for me . . . i'd have safety concerns . . . too "open".

Went there on a day trip, one party boat sailed in there was a buffet and they left within about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. It was pretty peaceful until they showed up. I would suggest wearing water shoes unless your feet are tough. Snorkeling is not great but not bad either. I never got to see the cabins.

I have never stayed there but that is on the bucket list...I do love love love to spend the day there. Always peaceful and quiet...loungers, hammocks, restaurant! I have been fortunate enough to miss the party boat on all of my visits....

I've been going to Half Moon Beach for years and years - I'm good friends with the owners. Its a great place and getting better - they've put a bunch of work into it this year and built another cabin. We'll probably spend a night or two there next season...the cabins are very rustic but the setting is awesome. My local friends love going there on their days off because it is so relaxing and uncrowded - and since the access is privately owned, no vendors or hustlers or jet skis for that matter! I call it the "anti-7 mile beach". Its continues to be a Sunday tradition to gather our posse and go there. http://westcountywestend.com/2011/03/27/sunday-family-outings/

Its a lovely spot to visit for a day but as far as staying there I hear Jitters. I used to think it would be an ideal place to stay - so peaceful and quiet but I personally wouldn't consider it these days.

It is isolated and "out there". I stayed at Zimbali this winter for a night - and that's pretty darn remote too...and it was lovely, more than lovely - very special indeed. What both properties have going for it that made or would make me more comfortable is: ...now, not saying that any of that guarantees anything - but by staying positive and trusting my friends I did not miss out on an awesome experience. And I won't let fear keep me from spending the night with that wonderful family out at Half Moon (should the occasion arise). Either way, HMB is and always will be my go to spot when I want sand between my toes. In 2 1/2 months I only went to Long Bay beach ONCE. And that was more than enough! |
