I became friends with Mark Karan when the band he was playing with - Ratdog -came to Negril to do one of those "destination concerts" at Grand Lido. Knowing a few high people in places we and eight or nine of our closest friends here were on the guest list and had the most awesome time dancing in the sand to some of our favorite music.
As Mark says in comment on the video below,he and his ex-wife fell in love with Negril the two times they came over with Ratdog (with our assistance getting them out of tourist prison as often as we could) - so they came back in 2011 and their trip coincided with Government Mule's 4 day event at Breezes. Warren and Mark linked up - this is the result. For us, it was yet another great show and great experience at the AI we did not have to stay at.
The song they play here is a great selection in my opinion. Shakedown Street was written by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter about Haight Street in San Francisco and the changes (most not so good) that were taking place in that neighborhood in the late '70s and early '80s. I have come to identify that song and its lyrics with Negril...
"don't tell me this town ain't got no heart - just gotta poke around".
Enjoy.
