One of my main times to go to JA is just after Christmas )I usually arrive 12/27 -- where I live is just beginning to get really CRAPPY weather wise, ice, snow, unbelievably COLD temperatures. It is just so nice to get on a plane and three hours later be in a summer time climate. So many stage shows, parties and music all around.
The HOT sunshine! And so many people around from all over that it is really easy to avoid the husslers/ hasslers.
It used to be the smell of the air, while stepping off the plane.
Now, it's the rush of walking out the door of the airport, and seeing familar faces, being 'officially greeted' by the juta drivers. Buying a true juice, orange I hope, and seeing one of my realitives pick me up.
I get chills when I reach the cane fields, and turn right down to turn right again and I'm on my way home.
Drop everthing, put my suit on, swim, and wash my heart with a large cup green skin coconut. Then I am served, roast'turn' breadfruit, ackee and salt fish.
stepping foot aground outside the port and reconnecting to the world. only in JA. Dumping the insulation you need in western culture inside and out. They way your body moves changes, slower, easier, the air is greening with life and there is my framily - the family I got to choose - brother sunshine walking waiting for me with the trunk open and a cold guinness in the car. fresh fish for breakfast when we get to Sheffield. damn I miss home.
