Money has become 'God' to many/most.

This is something that has always bothered me about JA. Ever since my first solo visit when I was 22, so many fathers who would try get me together with their daughters and brothers doing the same to their sisters. YOUNG girls, maybe 14-16 who'd just come up and sit on my lap and start well, acting like a hooker would. When I would ask my expat friend about it, she would tell me stories about the things that happen in the neighborhood and how it's kept very quite, like many things. I don' t have anything against prostitution between consenting adults. But I feel horrible for these young girls and women alike for are forced into the business or suffer from sexual abuse. Jamaica needs to catch up with the times and start reporting the abuse and setting harsher punishments.

That is true to a point Jitters, but it would only stop the "farrin" money if there was no demand from "visitors". The cultural mindset is still there & would continue on a local level until law enforcement starts doing their job & lawmakers come up with some "fitting" punishment for the crime.

This is the hardest and most heartbreaking thing about Jamaica. Jamaica is not the only place that tourists go to have sex with minors. The problem is so much deeper than just the tourists, whom i agree do not help the situation! This problem runs so very deep. A scene comes to my mind, I was at a wake out in the country and a group of adults (including the mother who was a child herself) were encouraging a little girl no older than six to dance with her butt in the air. I was so upset and appalled, with all the drinking going on, I knew that child would not be safe for long. I was with a Jamaican friend, who is well educated and has lived in England for many years. She was so disgusted and mumbled under her breath in disgust - 'that child needs to put some clothes on" yes she was scantily dressed. I'm sure, she too , felt shivers run over her knowing what danger that child was facing. The worst part was that my friend and I appeared to be the only people who was upset by this performance. The rest of the crowd cheered it on on turned a blind eye. Ive heard a lot of similar stories and have seen many things I wish I never saw. I wonder what happened to Monk? I miss his well informed input and passion.

On my very 1st trip I witnessed chid abuse right in front of my eyes. The resort was waaaay on the westend, and had a seawater pool. I told him and he gave me a little history lesson as he had been going to Ja This type and all other types of sexual abuse of children is PLAIN OLD SICK |
