Thought I might want to "get back on this horse & ride" in order to encourage Ras to do a trip report for us! To refresh your memory, my 84 year-old mother & I are along the South Coast, in Treasure Beach, at Sunset Resort:
Mom & I followed our usual pattern this morning, altho we had to shorten each part of it a bit, as this was the day that we were going to be meeting up with boater Dennis Abrahams to go out to the Pelican Bar!! Mom awoke early & went out pon de verandah to enjoy her morning coffee. She's reading the Gleaner & enjoying taking in the sights of the sea spread out 180 degrees in front of her. I wake up a bit later, get to take in the same view from bed (!!!) as she's got both French doors open & join her with my tea. There's nothing like sitting on your own verandah, relaxing & talking with your mum, breathing deep, relaxing & gazing at the sea, flowers & birds flitting around! Here it is:
We walked the 20 feet or so to have our breakfast at the Sunset restaurant, which btw, is a great meal! And it was included in the price of our room You get to pick from everything; eggs, omlettes, bacon, ham, sausage, fruit plate (yum!), fruit juices, pancakes, french toast, whole wheat bread, English muffins, Blue Mt. coffee, tea, etc. We were ALWAYS highly satisfied with our breakfast & never were really hungry until time for an early dinner.
We walked over to Calabash Bay, where Dennis drove his boat up near the beach to pick up mom & I. Dennis is a very congenial man & was downright gentlemanly with my mother, helping her walk to the boat & helping her aboard as if she were his own mother! Dennis had already picked up three wonderful women, who we had the honor of enjoying the day with. We then motored 12 miles just south of & along the coast, getting to take in a part of the island I've never seen:
Here's Captain Dennis:
Soon, we began to approach the Pelican Bar:
Captain Dennis dropped mom & I off there & took the rest of the women over to see the Black River area. The Pelican was very shady & cool. I went snorkeling twice, we had a great fresh-caught fish meal & we saw dolphins from the platform that jutted out into the sea! When Dennis came back to pick us up, we asked him to let us off at Frenchman's Bay so that we could have a bit of a walk back to Sunset. Two of the women that we'd met on the boat walked with us to our place & came in for a drink & we visited with them. Great people!
OK, I cannot find my notes for anything beyond this. I'll come back with more of what's left from my memories!
