I also really enjoyed staying at the Treehouse, I love their breakfast, love the rooms, love the staff. So we booked in September and had really hard time finding places to stay over Christmas even that early. Just because of my employer (a University), which basically closes down over winter intersession, it is the easiest time to not be there. OT, many of the west end restaurants pick you up for free when you eat dinner at their place, we used this option very often and it was great. Some of them return you for a nominal fee too, some of them inflate the price of your return to double price, but you aren't required to use their service to return. I think the food is much better in the west end restaurants. I found the prices to be very expensive though.
And to ? Westender ? or whoever dissed me for bringing up Leptospirosis, I did it just to let everyone know. This is hardly a forum where first timers or prospective first timers come looking for information. I often swim in the rivers and had never heard not to swim in places after hard rainfall. Though I wouldn't probably swim in muddy waters anyways.
For the first time ever, I picked up hookworm on one toe. And I'm sure it was when I took off my shoes on New Year's Eve and walked on wet sand. The most unbelievable itch !!
I'm looking at airfares and they are still very high. I used to fly R/T from upstate NY for under $500 on 1/26 or 12/27 (before Christmas was way more expensive) -- the flights are now $950 or so. I always used to go in August for a month, but about six years or so ago I stopped. I don't know if it was just an unbelievably hot summer in Jamaica, or as I get older I just can't cope with extreme humidity. I remember getting off the plane in Mobay and thinking OMG I spent money to come to this?
