So this Germanwings flight that went down, whew..... have any of you ever had a scary flight in or out of Jamaica? I have -- one time flying out of Newark Airport during an absolutely horrendous snow storm we actually got off the ground, all on board cheered. The pilot a few minutes earlier had told us they were about to cancel the flight & of course we were all totally bummed out sitting in the plane awaiting getting to Jamaica in three hours. We did get to fly though.
Another time, years ago with Eastern Airlines a traveller could use their tickets pretty freely between Mobay and Kingston -- this was in the time that the train ran between Mobay and Kingston, just a wonderful trip. So you could catch a free trip from Mobay to Kingston via Eastern Air & take the train back to Mobay to get your flight back home. On one of these trips we hit an absolutely horrid and scary thunderstorm around the Portland area. It was so awful -- rapid decent & I thought it was the end, but with luck we got to Montego Bay.
Another time, my departure was delayed due to "mechanical problems" with the plane. I was travelling with my two daughters I think about two years old and six years old -- got my luggage checked in and went back out and hired a taxi who was some guy from some alligator park to drive us around the Montego Bay area just to waste some time before they fixed the plane. So the "fixing of the plane" lasted really a long time. We finally got to leave at 2:00 a.m. in the morning. So any parents can imagine having small children with them at that time of the night. Mutabaruka was also on this flight. Have to laugh, no luggage, no shoes, a leppard skin toothbrush and bookbag. So just when I first found out the plane was delayed I called my husband to let him know but he had already left to pick us up at JFK Airport in NY. When we finally eventually got back to the States it was something like zero degrees. My husband was at the airport to get us, I was for sure happy to see him. We somehow got lost on the way back home.... it was just SO late at night and we ended up having to get a hotel in Hartford CT that was pretty much freezing inside.
Another scary flight.... one time I flew from Montego Bay to Negril when they had those flights. Oh my god -- this plane was like a little station wagon with wings. I would never do this again, an old time friend was on my flight to Montego Bay and convinced me to do it.
