Out in our part of the West End there aren't many hotels but one big one - one big one that, while under construction screwed our neighborhood's current up but good a few years back. For three weeks, right at sunset the power would go out and their generator would kick in - no housing so the thing sounded like a Boeing 707 landing in the yard (and having grown up on a runway for Kennedy Airport I know that sound all too well).
Since the problem was fixed though I have to say that at least while I'm there the current has been pretty consistent (knock wood). I can remember putting makeup on for New Year's by flashlight but for the past few years - save a car plowing into a utility pole its been consistently ON.
My neighbors keep a close eye on their bill so if there's an unexplained spike they can look for and disconnect the thiefs.
