This is from my local newspaper in the Albany NY area. I have never yet put one of those hummingbird feeders in my yard - with the sugar and water stuff in them but I do have them come to my yard because I have quite a bit of flowers. Sometimes it is rather disorienting because they sound like a "bee attack". They have "wars" and kind of play chicken or something flying into one another and then averting at the last minute. When they first come back here in May, they seem to fly right to me in my face for a couple of minutes and look at me. They are quite lovely little additions to my yard during the warm months. The winter literally sucked BIG TIME here in upstate NY this year, the temperatures were the coldest on a continual basis I have ever remembered. It was horrid taking my ill dog, little Roamie Doodle Dandee out in the middle of the night when the temperature was 10 degrees. Rest in Peace my sweet little Roamie.
All of those weather situations in Iowa, Kansas, Arkansas, West Virginia -- really scary, I hope all of you haven't been affected. I sometimes wonder if the Climate Change the Research Scientists are writing about is not being downplayed by the government.
I am doing a little bit better since having to put our little Roamie Doodle Dandee down. No pets in the house right now, VERY strange. I am going to really try and not have any pets right now. I had my step father pick up Roamie's ashes and told him I couldn't cope with getting them yet so he is keeping them for now.
Heating homes in these times is kind of horrendous, my home is heated by oil heat with a back up "Uncle Ben's" wood heating stove. But this year I didn't have too much wood.
