While gathering my thoughts to post in the other thread I was searching around on google and found this -
I always feel good when I sign a petition about something I am passionate about -
I wish I could do more but I do know the most important thing we can do is keep on talking about this - do not let it go back under the rug -
"Target: Jamaican Prime Minister the Honourable Orette Bruce Golding
Sponsored by: Care2.com
In Jamaica, child molestation has become an increasingly prevalent problem. Sex offenders walk free even when DNA evidence of their crime is provided.
The acquittal of Paul Lewis, accused of carnal abuse and freed despite DNA evidence, sparked widespread suspicion of bribery in the court system. The theory has held up as courts acquitted yet another sex offender this past June.
The issue extends beyond the court room. Many instances of child sexual abuse go unreported in attempts to avoid bringing shame to family and friends. Although the government has begun to crack down on sexual abuse of children, the problem still prevails in much of the country.
Fight sexual abuse in Jamaica by demanding that courts hear any and all evidence against and accused sex offender and that convictions are followed by harsh and swift punishment. "
