I was lucky enough to have a kitchen in my room this trip. One of my favorite things to do is grocery shop and in Jamaica it was no different. I think what I saved in room charges I surpassed in groceries.

I was lucky enough to have a landlord that loved to cook also. He cooked the first two nights, then after cooked too but asked me to do the "food". I said you mean side dishes or accompanyments? Well yes..for your staple...like rice, pasta or irish. He gave me a little grief as "you have been coming so long and you don't know "food".

He always cooked fish. Curried, fried, excovitch or brown stewed. My favorite was the lionfish!

I love having a kitchen for my family of four. We get our staples first thing and hit the market for produce. It saves us a ton in the long run. We make lots of stir frys and rice/chicken dishes. I pickle up cucs and cabbage for slaw. I usually bring quite a few of my seasonings from home.

I've got to eat now as looking at food has made me hungry!

My ideal dinner ackee/ saltfish food. dasheen tuff yellow afu yam and some good ole dumplings! Curry Chicken will have to do with white rice.
