I worked with a few Jamaicans over the weekend and there was a customer asking some questions about when he went to Jamaica back in the day. He told us that in the mornings the "fruit ladies" would come from the road all dressed up nice and fresh and then he would see them change into grubby clothes and change back when the day was done. He was asking if it was a "trick" to make us feel bad so we would buy or tip bigger.
They explained that no..it's not trick but Jamaicans are very proud people and they would never go on the street in grubby clothes...not to the store..they wouldn't dream of wearing jeans to a wedding..etc...
I remember being scolded or kissteet from a taxi driver as I had on a my swimming suit with a cover up..but he thought I was wet. Most jamaicans wouldn't even think of going on the road in a swimsuit.
