thanks rootswoman I really needed this - Tanya - 05-07-2013

You said -
"but I have read that ______ first language is not English. I have no idea what it is – but I keep that in mind if she writes something that makes me pause. Things just don’t always translate right and that is the bottom line."

and it has helped me because -

I am on a committee with someone who is French Canadian/Quebecois and her English is mostly un-accented. Sometimes the things she says in meetings rub me the wrong way.

now I know that I should ask for clarification on her meaning/intent before I jump silently to conclusions.

THANK YOU!!!

disclaimer - this has nothing to do with the original post/discussion the quote came from as I do not know anything about it. was just browsing the board and what I needed jumped out and kissed me. or slapped me what-ever

Thank you Tanya!
I'm glad something good came out of that post!

I think that there are probably a few here on this board that English being not the 1st language.Me being one of them. Sometimes I think that profanity is my 1st language, sometimes with French on the back burner. What makes it worse is that when you don't read or write very well until you get to be 16-17-18 and then try both French and English at the same time with work in the way. Puntuation is the hardest thing .......(spelling to)...hehehe
