The Whistling Frog, with which we are so familiar in Jamaica, is actually an import from Barbados. Lady Blake, the wife of the Governor, was intrigued by the sound while in Barbados and in 1890 introduced a few into the grounds of Kings House. Some planters at the same time in typical "follow fashin" introduced others to St. Ann. They believed that the little frogs would exterminate the cattle ticks that were giving cattle-breeders some concern. It was said that the ticks, meant as frog food and placed in the shipping container, arrived attached to and feeding on the little frogs. The frogs are now everywhere and we seldom notice their singing, except when you have been away and arrive back in Jamaica
