Let me share a story about "special cake". - jeannieb - 03-24-2013

I was reading a previous thread and "cake" came up. I remembered this story.

About 2 years ago we rented a house in Treasure Beach (Old Wharf area).

As you all know "oregano" is easy to come by. Our oregano was free as a welcome gift from a friend we've known for years. We had a whole heap of it and we didn't know what to do with it all. My husband was the only one that like the spice, no one else partook on a regular basis.

Our friend Kris had brought along a pre-packaged chocolate cake mix. The kind you only need to mix water, eggs and oil into the powder then bake. We took the oil amount and cooked it with the oregano. We strained the oregano out of the oil and added it to the cake mixture. About 1/2 an hour later we had fresh cake which was like brownies since we had no eggs.

All 6 (5) of us sat on the veranda, eating cake, watching the stars, staring at the sea. We sat for a while, talking and giggling. Our Jamaican friend was with us. He did not eat any brownies. Our guys went to bed and my friend Kris and I stayed up with our JA friend.

Kris, me and our JA friend stayed up for 2 more hours talking deep thoughts, life, philosophy, beliefs, ...you name it, we covered it. We had life figured out, man.

The next morning our JA friend came by the house. He told us that we were all boring after we ate the cake. "You don't eat that, you smoke it" he said. When you eat it, it makes you all weird.

As it turns out, we had not talked at all. He said we all sat in silence. All of those deep talks we had with each other must have been through our minds. He said none of us said a single word. We did manage to lock up the house and go to bed at some point.

Kris and I swear to this day that we stayed up and talked for hours. We both knew what we were saying and till this day we swear we know each others thoughts at that moment. Our JA friend says otherwise.

I am not an oregano aficionado and this was one of the few times I tried it. Anyone else have this experience?
