I watched a program on the telly last night (W5) and they said and made there case that 99% of travel insurance is NO GOOD !!!!. You may TRY !!! to use it or might not need to ,but you will find out that it is NO GOOD. There are questions that can't be answered correctly.They gave 5 examples and did story lines around them.The questions are made up by lawyer "double talk" with a flare of "doctor help". I called my daughter ( a lawyer) and she said the EXACT !!!! same thing. what next !!!!

All I can say is that we always buy the travel medical insurance. Last year it came in real handy when I had a heart attack in Negril!!! The Ins Co. flew a nurse down to escort me back to the states...flew us both back to Milwaukee (they also paid for my wife's ticket home)...and the nurse came all the way to my house to make sure I made it home without incident. Maybe I'm one of the 'lucky' 1%??? But I would recommend anyone over 40 years old always buy the insurance...just in case. So...regardless of what your Telly says, I beg to differ!!! LOL

I was not saying to not buy insurance I was saying to CHECK IT OUT !!!!!!!! VERY CLOSELY !!!!!! I'm glad all worked out great for you !!!! W5 is a program that does investivegative (sp)reporting using lawyers,doctors,businessmen etc. and is meant as an eye opener for the general public,it is NOT !!!!!! made for sensational type reporting !!!!! ALSO !!!!! my daughter ( the lawyer) is in that EXACT !!!!!! business. I have another daughter that represents a major hotel group ( Sheraton Hotels) in the aspect of international conferances and clearences (sp) and I called her just now and she says that Sheraton hire LAWYERS !!!!!! to buy their insurance for them. Don't bet on anything !!!! Don't assume anything !!!!!! CHECK IT OUT BEFORE YOU GO !!!!!! Be Safe ,Be Through , Be Viglant That's all I said to start with !!!! Again I'm glad that all worked out for you and that it just wasn't "blind squirrel" luck !!!!!

Sorry OT...when I read your original post..I thought you meant that 99% of travel insurances were scams. Didn't see where you said to check them out thoroughly. My bad!! LOL

I guess it could have been seen as they are all scams BUT I think the point I was making is that people fill them out wrong even ever so slightly wrong and then they got ya by the nads.AGAIN BE VERY CAREFUL !!!

I always buy travel ins-Travel ex (or something like that) My girlfriend a travel agent for over 25 yr and rec. them- esp after her father suffered a severe stroke in Ochi and had to be medevact to miami..They had to pay out-of-pocket for upfront costs but were quickly (like in week) refunded whatever they paid..They took care of all the phone calls-collaborations,etc..She said it literally saved her fathers life...

I had a bad motorcycle accident out in sheffield Jam-..when i got home was unable to work for month while my knee healed-had to go to physical therapy x3 week..Any out of pocket costs related to that accident -and as long as I had receipts ..were re-imbursed (got a check in under 30 days) that was for all my co-pays for PT, my meds-gave it all to my travel agent and she took care of rest-they were even cool that i dint have a police report from the accident-but did have ifo from seeing the local Dr in Negril.

For me the extra dollars give peace of mind..

Now I have no doubt theres probably some unscrupulous companies out there-

The 1 example that popped up was that about having a EKG or a stress test.No matter when you had one ,for whatever reason "they" concidered it as a precondition treatment even if you had it for a sport check when you were in your teens.My son played university hockey then pro hockey for 7 years and each year he had a stress test. If he put down he had a EKG or stress test he would have been refused.If he put down that he had no health problems and something happened he would have been cancelled for lack of disclosure.A no win situation.One guy had an IBS and he took a heart attack and now he owes $384K .Ya gotta be careful.Both my daughters say that you may think you're covered and you're not.I'm not using the word scam I'm saying be careful.

I've never gotten the insurance before but really thinking about it this trip. I'm thinking of doing the zip line at YS. Scared to death of heights, but I hope to over come that, the second scariest thing is getting seriously injured in Jamaica.
