Now that you are there and have a month hit the streets! Start at HiLo and check their bulletin board. Ads for rentals are often up there. And just ask around. You've gotten some good suggestions here on other threads so follow up with those. Good luck and happy hunting!

you can usually come in with a three month visa as long as you have the return ticket, which for after a certain amount of days (21 or 30??) is quite a bit more $$$. Then you can get another three month extension on that visa, which you do have to file for. Every six months are are required to leave Jamaica for.. I forget whether it is 24 hours or 48 hours. I used to fly to Miami for a couple of days.

If you get to do this it will certainly be an experience.

My friend actually had to stand there while they COUNTED the days he was on island! He usually arrives in the fall of one year and leaves in the spring of the next, returning that same fall. Well, one year he was "off" by a few days and he was detained for hours while they "decided" if they were going to send him back to the states.

Sorry, I should have said 180 days. Yes, I counted the days and booked my original return date on the 180th day. I returned on the 90 day mark, so just squeaked in there without having to extend.

Applying for residency can be a long, frustrating and expensive process, from what I understand, even if you are married to J'can. Not sure I want it bad enough to apply. Think I prefer the back & forth living arrangement.

I have to ask this question.WHY !!!! in God's green earth would a person want a Jamaican residency anyway ???? 3 months on and 3 months off will give you all the visiting and then all the health plan on the mainland.Don't you think it is somewhat suicidal to want to live in jamaica being "older" and more prone to an air lift to the states or Canada or someplace else. Does family not over ride anything ???? I worked in Jamaica for years and years and years and it never crossed my mind to say "Hmmm I like this better than my family ". Oh well to each his own...don't read anything into this that's not there.

help?? in conclusion i have been to negril 3 times now since dec 2011 total 17days im back in us now wilol come back in july for a month and then in sept as sugessted slow and gradually i have one glitch on my record in 52yrs paid my dues and have moved on... i can still work from ja for my employer part time by computor as i stay would like to seek jod in ja for wen or if i decide to stay... is it easier if at some point in near future i get married to my longtime girlfren.. and does thst aloow me to work
