lobsta'on da rocks - daniel - 02-16-2012

I always shyed away from lobster in jamaica, being from Maine, but I have come to really love it. My first morning of vacation, you have to know I am up early, thick rich coffee, big fatty, half a paypaya, and I'm in the sea to do a little snorkleing. I head down the ladder, adjusting my mask. The fist thing I am looking at are some long tenacles about a foot or so in front of my face.WTH. It took me a few to realize I was starring at a really large lobster. I reached out a little too tenative, and he was gone.damn! never did see another in three weeks of snorkleing almost every day,i checked.Did eat a lot of lobster this trip though.Best was the ones I cooked myself, simply boiled, served with new zealand butter.I also bought them from the local spear fisherman,as they swam bye the front of the house, along with fish several times. one day, i bought about 13 or so, small ones,
for 1500.I also bought a lot of lion fish from these same guys.fileted and deep fried!!!!,yum! My friend Trevor cooked a curried lobster one night that was to die for. fairly hot,but not so much it took over the lobster. We also had a feast of whelks one night. The rocks in front of LeMer were covered with whelks(snails).
One afternoon we spent about an hour or so gathering, and then another hour or so picking out the meat after steaming. We had a large two quart saucepan of meat.Trevor made a thick sweet curry sauce with them , and a batch of the best coconut rice .so good you want just white rice kinda good.yep life sure tuff on the rock.
