Almost regret watching this... - Yvonne - 01-29-2012

Earlier today, while on my treadmill, I was watching MSNBC... Why Planes Break & Why Planes Crash. I've never understood why planes stay in the air, don't really care, as long as they get me where I'm going. These were very eye-opening programs (one focused on structural/engineering problems, the other on human error). Interestingly, these crashes led to improvements in airplane transportation for all of us. One more "thank you" for those who gave their lives so the rest of us will be safer...

June, 1995... my flight was canceled & I had to stay in MoBay overnight. As we were leaving the gate & heading toward the runway, the plane was stopped. We were towed back to the gate. At the time, it was a huge inconvience. It didn't take long to realize how fortunate I was that someone in MoBay was aware & safety conscious. We were towed back to the gate because the plane was leaking hydraulic fluid. No hydrolic fluid, no control of the plane... steering, landing, braking, etc. One more time in my life, there was an intervention that gave me more time. It's happened twice, so I feel very fortunate. This is the one I can share.

I am a cruiser and chose not to watch much of the coverage on that Costa ship. I know a lot went wrong but I did not wish to climb of deck of my next cruise with those images.

There been a few times the airplane was grounded for various reasons..and There's always some people at the airport that get extremely upset..I understand you have to be somewhere for something important..but would you rather risk it all??? I'd rather sleep in the terminal before I ever get on any jet or ship, etc that is questionable...
