Plant nurseries in Jam ??? - suzengrace - 12-06-2011

I was told there's a really nice nursery in Ferris Crossing-and I know of the one across from the gas station in Negril..Just wondering about others.. They can have a wide variety or be specialized..

There is a nice one near the Mobay airport, if you're going on the bottom road, before you hit Toby's (on the same side as Toby's).

I also think there is one in Westgate as well. Like if you were coming from Negril, instead of turning where the movie theater, hilo (was superplus) KFC, etc. are you'd go straight through one stop light (I believe). It's across from a shopping center and a burger king.

I've been to the one by the airport, just passed by the westgate one, never gone in.

Thanks Cher. You know how proud he is of his garden. Paul ordered up some june plums last week. He's got alot of Sorel he's cleaning at the moment.

Suzengrace...he's not far from you . You should check him some day.

I'm pretty sure Francine from Seastar has a nursery and/or sells plants! What are you looking for Suzen???

Re: Plant nurseries in Jam ??? - suzengrace - 12-07-2011

Thanks all for your response...

Love to check at his garden Wit...I always enjoy spending time with fellow gardeners-esp.since I will be new at gardening Jam style..I'm sure there's alot I could learn from him...Sounds like he has quite the green thumb..

Hey JJ-I'm mad at myself for not making more of an effort to get to Cranbrook-Barry was going to takes us then I got sidetracked-I will get there next year for sure.

Right now am not looking for anything specific in the way of plants..Just seeing whats out there and available..I pretty much am into it all..Ornamental plants/shrubs, trees..fruit trees,vegetables,cacti,etc-now orchids that would be divine..being a horticulture student-am into all plants (including-cannabis sativa...lol)

Re: Plant nurseries in Jam ??? - suzengrace - 12-07-2011

Thanks for info Sharleen...Out where we currently stay is in the cockpit country the soil is really nice-lots of iron oxides..(ie red soil)

and yes compost is like black gold for us gardeners...and so easy to make-and its free (with minimal work)..

Seedlings-one of the most inexpensive way to grow plants-just needs a little more TLC (as well as cuttings, shoots, etc)

And always-right plant in the right place..One that has all its needs met when it comes to types of soil, amount and type of ligh(shade, filtered sun,full-exp,etc)
water needs, and cant forget living near the ocean (salt can do a number on many plants)
Then again, some plants do well in places they're not suppose to-just got to experiment...

I think a garden really makes a house a home -even if it's just a little patio with some potted plants..
