Say it isn't so. Did Clives really jump from $20 for shared transport to $30? That's a huge jump. Last increase was from $18 to $20. I could see going to $22, 23 or even 25... but a 50% increase!!! I hate to say it because I love Clives but I may have to look into JUTA for my next trip. Not sure.

Actually, what I'm seriously contemplating is if I want to call Kenny and have him pick me up at the airport and then make a detour to Rocklands Bird Sanctuary on the way to Negril. Still have 6 weeks to decide what I'm going to do.

sixty bucks for two is still a great deal. Good chance the car or van was empty on the way to the airport too. Price at home for the same ride would be double. (or more, without stops)

I agree... $60 for two for a private ride IS a great deal. Unfortunately, I'm not two. And actually, I think the shared ride price increase could hurt in the long run because if you are two, it would make more sense to book private now rather than shared and risk the wait for other passengers. Therefore when and individual DOES book shared, there will be fewer people to share with. Yes, I was the only rider - when my flight came in at 6:30 a.m. But now that I have to do the layover thing and don't get in until noon, I haven't had less than 5 people in the van. At the new rate, that's a $150+ transfer.

I have used Clives, Juta and Alfreds, but of the three most trips are done with Juta. Clives was great, and I got a discount on a Mayfield Falls trip since I had booked round trip airport. A couple of times I was with another couple in the car, and once by myself.

I did my a private transfer last May with Alfreds- only the second time I had done private--the other time was with the Seastar driver. Private was great because we stopped for a big grocery shop in Mobay, stopped at Biggas, and stopped at half moon on the way to Negril.

But that said, I am usually on a really tight budget and Juta works well for me (I have used them about 7 or 8 times) I never have to wait long for the other passengers and generally grab a red stripe and a patty while I wait. What I have found to be my least favorite aspect of Juta is most often I have to leave way too early for the ride back due to AI people catching earlier planes. I like to prolong my departure every bit that I can and my flights are usually in the afternoon. Also sometimes the other people on the bus don't want to stop for food or refreshment on the road--let alone bathroom breaks.

Believe me, I always tipped well with the $20 price but that tip may have to come down a bit now. But if Alfreds truly does have a $50 private transfer price, I may look into this. For a few extra bucks, I could do my Scotia Bank and Digicel stops on the way. What is usually a no-brainer decision for me on transfer just turned into a thinker, that's all. Need to toss around some different options in my head and see what I want to do.

Alfred's is $50 each way 1-3 people. We paid $60 each way for 4 people in July of this year. And if u decide to do a day excursion ( one of the more costly ones) you get free return to the airport.
