in your carryon.? Like a small one?
Iam flying AA. They didnot let me bring a chainsaw in my checked bags. Took 6 months to get it back from the airlines.

I took a brand new Chain saw in the box, no prob. But a microwave may run different there because they are only 50hz cycle in their electricity where here in the states we are 60hz. So check the microwave for what it runs on. We are planning on buying those appliances there, computers are no problem because they can run on both and run correctly, but like your kitchen appliances and stuff I would buy there.

A chainsaw, now I can see them confiscating that, but a microwave, used, out of the box, I know people who have taken those and other kitchen appliances, that fit, in their luggage.

I bought my microwave,TV, and DVD player here, cut out the stress of declaring, plus, these things are easy to buy here.

I took a vacuum cleaner once. I put it in checked luggage.

You know, you can get a microwave fairly inexpensively there - in Sav La Mar or even Foundation Imports in Negril. Same goes for a ceiling fan...not much of a savings really between Jamaican and US, and add in the hassle of carrying it - if you must have it. I'm trying to think if any of my friends living there full time have one and I don't they any do...maybe one, maybe two. Something in the back of my mind also is saying that at least American made microwaves don't do well with the 50hz current there, which may be why I can't think of anyone who has one.

I live very nicely without one in Negril. I look at it this way - when I'm there I simplify. Life slows down. If I need to defrost something I put it in a pot of hot water. I do not have the desire to radiate and have my food in 90 seconds. To each his own...
