sometimes you need more than spf 30 - Seveen - 04-21-2011

We hit the tarmac running. Jamaica Jamaica. It’s her first time. Me, I’ve lost count. When the airplane door opens after our champagne fashion show flight we walk down the steps into the humid hot air of Jamaica and breathe a sigh of release, ready for our holiday and lots of sun, sand and beach.

The singers sway in the air of the circulating fans and greet us with rum punch and sing Welcome to Jamaica setting the atmosphere for the beginnings of a wonderful holiday. The music embraces us as we collected our bags, smile sweetly at the immigration gentleman, and waited for what seems forever to collect our bags, and make it out into the fresh air of Jamaica.

Our destination, Montego Bay, world renown for entertaining visitors from around the globe. Our residence for the week, five stories up overlooking the calm seas of Doctor’s Cave Beach.

The view is magnificent and panoramic. Gloucester Avenue is laid out before us. From Cornwall Beach to Walter Fletcher beach the view is laid out like a shimmering colorful, loud picture just for your eyes delight. The entire avenue ours to behold. Boats sail silently on the bay and the sounds of soft laughter drifts up to our room heightening our anticipation of hitting the beach, while the warm breezes titalate our senses along with the smells of jerk chicken.

The views from the “top road” are even more expansive. Views that make you know there is a God. The glowing sunlight, bright blues interspersed with every color not even imagined just make you feel that everything has in fact been planned.

Doctor’s Cave Beach is beaconing, winking her white sand and gentle waves to encourage us to hurry and join her.

I warn her that we will be approached. The Rules: if someone asks to sit down next to you - say no, unless you can stand them for the whole week. If someone asks you where you’re staying tell them any place but where we are staying. If someone asks when did you get here and when are you leaving, act like you’re deaf or just tell them you’re from Kingston or – I’m in Jamaica visiting my grandparents. Most importantly, don’t let them linger unless that’s your heart’s delight for your whole vacation because you won’t be able to “shift gears”. And of course, don’t forget we are happily married and our husbands are just down shopping at the craft market.
