Tuna fishing Nova Scotia - oldtimer - 09-11-2022

What a year so far . They are around and being caught .After a long fight the fishermen/women tow the Tuna behind the boat to cool it down If you get the blood on you it will burn your skin just like acid .
Just like last year the Great Whites are around taking bites out of the sides of the towed Tunas .I think the number is 4 now . 2 of the fisherman cut the Tuna up at the wharf and did not bad . I think they got $4/lb not bad for salvage . Lots of BIG !!!!! Great Whites .

Thanks for the NS fishing update. Towing it in may be common, I don't know, but it reminds me of Old Man and the Sea. I would have loved to have bought some tuna for $4 per lb. Was that usd or cad per lb?

CND $'s The fishermen cut it up ( just like TV ) hehehe
Halibut $16/lb dockside . $29.99/lb at the fish market .
If they could sell it all dockside for $7-$8 /lb it would be better than being promised $12 and getting $3.50 - $5

Yes .He has 2 tags , If the quota is not reached by Sept 17th he will get one more tag . Then on Sept 26th they have a Lucky Dog Draw . 100 fisherman will have their licences in a hat and they draw 12 more . He might end up with 4 tags but that will depend on things . The 1st fish caught was 867lbs and went for $8.50 CDN and sold at auction in Japan for $107,000 US
ISN'T THAT NICE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't get me started .

Wow, what a big jump in price at auction. Seems it always works out that way whether a fisherman, dairy farmer, chicken farmer, etc. All get paid a minimum of what the products true worth with the middle man and retailer making much more.
Hopefully your son will catch more and have more tags. I cannot imagine landing a fish that large.
Was it the Japanese that bought it in Canada or a middle man business?

middle man run by the Tuna mafia . The tags have a tracking number so you know in real time when they are on the block . If it's not the lobster problem in China then it's the Tuna Mafia in Japan . This part of fishing is what's really stressful.

I was shocked upon reading the story. 90% king crab vanished. Wasn't organized crime who heisted them, ala "diamond shipment disappears from airport."

Cancel the season? Necessary or there will be none next year. Hope they return

In our "borrow $$" culture, fishing boats probably have bank loans. What is a solution for that?

Will a 1.5 degree water temp rise affects the sea to cause this event?.

CBB, are you sure that was not an article about king crabs and not tuna? The one I read using the 80 to 90 percent was about king crabs and they had canceled that season.
