Jam In The Sand - Firemon - 01-16-2022

Grateful Dead tribute act Dark Star Orchestra kicked off the ninth installment of their Jamaican Jam In The Sand destination event at Jewel Paradise Cove Resort in Runaway Bay, Jamaica.

The band used the Dead's May 7, 1978 setlist

In a way I prefer DSO to the Dead and Co, nowadays anyway. I'm not a fan of John Mayer being in the band.

I just read where John Mayer 1) caught covid and missed a recent Dead Company gig in Mexico; and he 2) retrieved Bob Saget's car from LAX and paid for a private plane to fly his body home to California.

“We came down here to have fun,” Bob Weir is quoted as saying in the post. “Unfortunately some of our brothers cannot make it but fun is what we’re going to have.”

In a 2019 interview with Chicks in the Office, Saget revealed he was a fan of Mayer’s work. And in 2006, the comic reached out to the musician to perform for his scleroderma benefit. Mayer was on tour at the time and couldn’t attend. So, instead, the singer sent Saget a video of himself performing one of his favorite songs.

When Mayer returned to Los Angeles, he attempted stand-up comedy and joined Saget at the Laugh Factory. The two have been close ever since.

Interesting, and that's cool that he did that. I've read about some rather unsavory things he has done over the years, mostly involving females. But besides that, for some reason he has always just rubbed me the wrong way, and I don't really know why. I just don't think he was/is a good fit for what remains of the Grateful Dead.

But that is very cool what he did for Saget. I always liked Bob Saget, funny guy, and seemed like a good dude.
