Boat story.. - oldtimer - 10-30-2021

Many years ago there was for a couple of seasons a boat named Black Dog that was moored at the Negril wharf . It was about 36-38ft long and maybe 12ft wide . Odd shaped boat that was not designed for deep water rolls . It had almost nothing in it . Like no bunks , no seats , no working deck ???? Once in awhile it would be in Lucea moored off by the wall . Odd place for anchorage . They got caught towing a " lady of the night " behind the boat about 4-5 miles off Negril beach . If the charter boat didn't come along then it would have been death to the lady . About 2 weeks after that the boat disappeared and then on one of my trips to The Pedro Banks it was out there just sailing around . They tried to buy fuel from the boat I was on but that didn't work out too good . they had no money .I told the Captain that I had seen the boat many times in Negril and a few times in Lucea . The Captain checked with some people he knew and the boat tried to get registared in Kingston and also in Lucea but had no papers . Jamaica is divided into 4 districts and a boat can only stay a certain time without changing address . The guy just didn't seem to have anything but did manage to be around . He certainly wasn't smart enough to get a job as a " runner "Personally I thought the guy had mental issues . When the boat left Negril one time it just disappeared . I thought that it must have been stolen by pirates but even if it changed it's name and colour the boat was different enough that you would know it .

Interesting.....

RE: Boat story.. - Firemon - 10-30-2021

And then the power would go out on the West End. Darkness everywhere. A boat offshore shines a light. Speedboats loaded with ganja quickly head towards the light to swap cargos. Crates of guns are quickly loaded into waiting vehicles with Red Stripes keeping watch and keeping quiet.

RE: Boat story.. - oldtimer - 10-31-2021

You know Firemon if was any other boat , any other time or place I would agree with you . You can smell a " schuttle boat " a mile away and they have to be trust worthy and this guy was neither . He might have wanted to do this but in his case it just wouldn't happen . The best " schuttle " I ever saw was pulled up on the shore by Hedo . It had 3 ....450hp Merc's across the stern . It was a Vee bottom with hard chines on the bow . Less than an hour to get to Haiti with a ton of ganja . Next stop South America for coke and fuel and back to North America , all in one day !!!!!

RE: Boat story.. - TAH - 11-01-2021

They do mean "go fast boats" when that term is tossed around! Even so, I always thought they made an overnight on one of the banks in between (several along the route)... interesting indeed.

RE: Boat story.. - oldtimer - 11-02-2021

With that kind of power and being a vee bottom boat with hard chines 5-6ft waves would seem flat . They lift and go across the waves not through them . It was designed for one thing and one thing only . They don't call them the cocaine cowboys for nothing .

Amazing the crazy shi* people attempt!!!

This happened on the South Coast earlier this year

RE: Boat story.. - TAH - 11-02-2021

I have a lot of respect for the balls it takes, and somebody has to do it. People will get what they want, one way or another. Only crazy if you get caught...

RE: Boat story.. - Negril75 - 11-02-2021

TAH, Can you imagine landing an F'en jet plane in the water intact like they did and escaped into the darkness of the night without a scratch. Talk about balls!! Un-F'en-believable!!

You know and maybe some of the oldtimers can chime in here that back in the day on the straightaway on Norman Manley Boulevard parallel with Negril Beach they used to land small planes and load up ganja for the trip back to FLA. They used smudge pots to illuminate the landing zone and would have the bales ready to load at the end of the landing roll. Pick up the tail, 180 the plane, load the cargo and off into the night it would go. Those who visited Negril back in the 60's and 70's will recall seeing the upright railroad track placed along the road in an attempt to "Clip" the wings of any further attempts to use the road.
