I am a retired fisherman from Nova Scotia . I started at 15 years old and fished for 57 years . Hockey ...know who the Ferguson's are but didn't know them . My son played for the OSU Buckeye's for 3 years . He also played summer hockey with Sidney Crosby and I got to meet him a few times . Really nice guy . He is King of the Grill at his summer home . Take this as shameless name dropping on my part ... hehehe .... Oh yes my son is a fisherman

I was an assistant coach at Yale and had Craig there. I did a fair amount of recruiting in NS. Always great kids both as hockey players but more importantly as human beings!! Loved my time in the Maritimes!! The kids from BC and Vancouver Island were also great kids. The Canadian boys seemed to have a better sense of respect than the American kids I found. Sidney is some kind of player!! Halifax correct?? Where do you hail from?

A morning catch off Treasure Beach
Oldtimer2, Did you ever do any Deep Sea Fishing off Treasure Beach, JA ?? I know Jamaica gets bashed as a fishing destination but I've always caught fish off TB. Always catch lots of Wahoo, Kingfish, Mahi Mahi, etc...
Fished off Negril 3 times and 2 Bonita was all I got...

Sid's from Cole Harbour , he will correct you if you say Halifax . Cole Harbour is just across the water from Halifax also home of Nathan McKinnon . They had the same childhood coach ....hmmmmmm
A lot of hard working young guys around here trying there best . I'm proud that you said what you did about the maritimers .
I'm from River John NS on the beautiful Northumberland Strait . Best lobsters in the world .
I taught a navigation coarse in Black River twice and got to go out on the Pedro Banks a few times .
Once you get around the end of Jamaica and start down the south side you have WAY !!!! better fishing . You get away from all the sand that comes through the Leeward Passage between Cuba and Haiti and into clean water . I am told that the southside of Cuba has by far the best fishing in all the Caribbean . Big fish .
You have some nice fish there . The bigger ones are Barracuda I believe and there is one Bonita I think . Correct me if I'm wrong . World class Marlin fishing off Port Antonio .
Lots of 1000lb tuna off Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island right now . Lots of Mackeral to eat .
The Covid thing has NS shut solid at the moment . If anyone here sees a US plate they want to hang them !!!! They wouldn't even let the US fish brokers and trucks on the wharf . A lot of that had to do with Trump and him doing the " double scuffle "
and calling US fish Canadian fish ..long story and I'll leave it at that .

Oldtimer2, We got to get together over a case of Molson (the real stuff from Canada not the fake US stuff) and talk!! Yes several barracuda in the photo and some small tuna and bonito also.
Pedro Bank I'd like to hear all the stories about that!!
I live part time in Maine not far from Calais / St Stephen NB and was absolutely shocked to see lobsters in retail stores Hannaford's at $14.99 a lb???? What's up with that?? Who the heck is buying lobster at that price point?? Especially what I'm seeing you guys getting off the dock in NS.. That's crazy!! Don't get me going with that Trump BS!!
What they feeding kids in Cole Harbour?? Got to get some of that down here!!

A couple of years ago when we were getting $4lb ( CDN ) they were calling them Maine lobsters and they were being sold in resturants for $30US a plate .

Oltimer2 sorry I missed your response on the lobster prices. That's what I thought somebody is making big money on the lobster trade and i don't think it's the fishermen!!

Yea I got to guess there are some stories coming off the Pedro Bank (S). It must be some intense living out there!! I imagine that the fishing (rod and hand line) are pretty good there and snorkeling and scuba has to be productive for fish, lobster and conch also!! If you could outfit a boat with generator, fuel, tent and AC for a weekend out there that would be some stories to tell!! Who's in on that trip???? Not to forget dingy's full of Red Stripe and Rum and ice!!!
