Work around for a reply to a thread - kylake - 09-08-2021

Well the, cannot reply problem, finally caught up with me but I found a little work around to resolve at least for now.
When you try to reply if the system instead takes you to the archive page look on the right for recent threads. Open the thread from there and click to reply and that is allowing me to reply without jumping to the archive again.
Some what of a backdoor way so to speak.

RE: Work around for a reply to a thread - CardBoardBox - 09-08-2021

I spent a lot of time previously trying to solve it. The problem surfaced lots during a period, then not at all during other times.
Note I'm on the continually updated FF version, and using unpatched (2 years) Windows 7, which generates lots of internal errors about 'cross domain' incompatibilities, I've never been totally prohibited.
Usually I see zero ads, and usually (99% of the time I am using just HTTP) I have found when reaching the dead end, I back-page, and as soon as the expected URL shows up, I hit escape (or stop) and insert an HTTPS colan slash slash in the front of the url, push the return-key and end up being able to post a reply, which I just had to do today both times.

Google analysis and google ads seemed a part of the problem. The fact that our "friend" is not in the US, the ads he sees, or at least the program is checking, just might be a cause of the problem. You all know targetted advertising, Canada sees ads for lobsters and we see ads for ED and electric drink mixers.

I thought it had to do with page resizing at one time.
Kylake is a good guy for trying.
-------
POST SCRIPT, after TAH's post (below) for I don't want to always be the last poster in a thread; DToT has tried the HTTPS, and there were changes to some places in the code/related programs to retain the HTTPS once it has begun, but he still can not get his reply to function.
Many a day using plain http startup works fine, then it won't for several days. Logic eludes me, same as why I see ads and don't see ads here.

RE: Work around for a reply to a thread - TAH - 09-10-2021

seems that if I make sure I'm using https: protocol, that I can reply. If not, then it doesn't work. I think a lot of people probably have the non https link bookmarked, or on their dashboard or whatever, and just by default are using the unsecured version of the site. That won't allow replies. If admin could redirect all non https visits to the secure site, it should fix the problem. I don't know how to do that though.

RE: Work around for a reply to a thread - kylake - 09-12-2021

Good point TAH, when you use the work around I mentioned it does redirect to https as you suggested the site in general should do. Maybe if Dread reads this and has time he can make a more 100% redirect to https

RE: Work around for a reply to a thread - Tammy - 09-13-2021

Kylake you will need to email him as I'm not sure he checks the board very much. He's pretty busy enjoying life outside and playing his music these days which I sure can understand. Shoot him an email and maybe he can take care of it. Thanks, Kylake for taking care of everyone here and doing everything you do. I so appreciate you taking that on.

RE: Work around for a reply to a thread - kylake - 09-13-2021

Will do Tammy. I didn't see this until after I posted on OT's thread but I will now follow up with and email. BTW, I don't mind helping at all just too bad I cannot do code like Dread to put a real fix on the problems. We never did get Firemon back in if you remember. He was a great contributor.

RE: Work around for a reply to a thread - TAH - 09-13-2021

kylake; are you able to assist with getting john g signed up here? See my thread about "sign up issues". I can't find an email address for Tammy, she did reply to the thread but I don't think she saw my later response.

RE: Work around for a reply to a thread - CardBoardBox - 09-13-2021

The persons profile page has 4 tabs, one is contact, and the Private Message is between the two people.
The last Rasta John posted, months and years ago, said he fixed what he could (http/https linking) and awaited for more specifics before he "went back in."

At least that's how I remember those postings.
BTW, I started here today with http, got into the reply screen then when it had settled down, seems I had jumped into that dead-end gray screen. I next used the browser 'left arrow, go back a page' on the top left, waited a few seconds until I saw some URL's appear/flash by on the lower left side of my screen, then pushed the X or stop button. I was/am in the 'reply box' I am using now. When I push post button, I will bet you a nickel that it posts

RE: Work around for a reply to a thread - kylake - 09-16-2021

TAH, send me the username and email address John wants for a new account using the private message function on this site. I am not an admin but will give it a go. If John has more than one email address or can setup a new one give me a choice.
Since I am not an admin (and if I can setup a new account) I know for a fact if an old email is already registered you cannot use it again unless it is completely purged by an admin.

RE: Work around for a reply to a thread - TAH - 09-16-2021

thanks kylake! I'll email him and get back to you. I don't think he has ever registered here, but not positive. I appreciate the assistance. I sent Tammy a pm a couple days ago but haven't got a response yet.
